Helpful Resources

  • ChildHelp:  A non-profit organization working to prevent child abuse and treat victims. If you’re interested in Speak Up Be Safe presentations for your school, you can search for the chapter nearest you here: Find Local Chapter
  • Prevent Child Abuse:  Another major child abuse prevention organization that works to increase awareness of child abuse.  You can search for local chapters from the home page.
  • Darkness to Light:  A great site with lots of good information and ideas on sexual abuse prevention. They have an online class called Stewards of Children available for $10 that looks really informative.  In-person classes with a facilitator may also be an option in your area. I haven’t taken it, but my former supervisor is a facilitator, so I feel comfortable recommending it. There is also a free downloadable booklet (The 5 Steps) and relevant research.
  • National Child Abuse Hotline:  1-800-422-4453
  • Child Welfare Information Gateway:  Reporting child abuse varies by state. This is a comprehensive list of websites and phone numbers for each state.
  • Children’s Bureau:  A federal government website with many resources.
  • National Sex Offender Public Website:  Find your state’s registry through this U.S. Dept. of Justice site. Use this resource thoughtfully and respectfully.
